November Employee Spotlight: Bob Mejstrik

Bob Mejstrik started in the sales department over 20 years ago and continues to work in sales today.

Accomplishments at MECO:

I’ve been doing this for over 30 years, and have made my share of mistakes. But I learned from those mistakes and I am not shy at advising my colleagues and clients. I did that once and this is what was said, “please don’t do that”.

Next MECO milestone:

MECO has a constant improvement mentality, I like being a part of that and having some input. Also, a very personal goal is to keep my hands out of the candy bowl here at MECO.

Why did you choose this line of work?

I came to this industry by chance some 30 years ago. I was looking for a new job and a friend of mine asked me to do him a favor and help him while I was searching. I’ve been doing that favor for over half of my life. People ask me when I’m going to retire. I tell them I love my wife too much and I love my job too much to retire at this time.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I try to be encourage other sales people and the dealers I am working with. One thing I’m lacking is computer skills, so I look to the younger sales people to mentor me in that regard.

Outside interests:

I have a small farm that fills my time. My wife says my tractor is my therapy. I also have a jail ministry and lead the men’s group at my church.

What advice would you give a new employee:

Understand what is expected of you. If you have problems filling those expectations, ask for advice to help you meet those expectations.

Favorite restaurant:

My wife and I have lunch on the first Saturday of each month with one of my daughters. We go back and forth choosing the next spot. Omaha has a very dynamic restaurant scene, so my favorite keeps changing. We recently had lunch at a new wood-fired pizza restaurant. We were so impressed we started looking for outdoor pizza ovens, found one wood or charcoal based. We’re going to have a lot of gatherings around that oven with friends and family.
